Hello, I am Jason, the owner of Family Time Fishing Custom Harnesses. I am passionate about walleye fishing and enjoy the opportunity to share techniques that work for me.
There are many effective techniques to catch walleye, and there are just as many variations and preferences within each technique. I would not proclaim myself to be an expert; nor would I say my choice of technique is better than any one else’s. That said, I have found that the harnesses I make are very effective and puts fish in the box!
Each custom harnesses is approximately 9″ to 12′” in length. I do this for THREE REASONS:
- STORAGE: The SHORT HARNESS is easy to store and I avoid time spent on the winding and unwinding of long leader materials. I prefer the Amish Outfitters crawler harness caddy. I make all my harnesses with a treble trailer, and the caddy manages the hooks most effectively.
- QUICK CHANGE ABILITY: Less time is spent rigging the harnesses. I attach the harnesses to a 6′ fluorocarbon leader behind a bottom bouncer, dipsy diver or jet diver.
- SHORT HARNESSES: Can be casted with a weight forward of the harness or set up in a drift.
From Reel to harness, my typical set up includes the following:
- 30-40 lb BRAD
- IN-LINE PLANER BOARD
- 20 LB FLUORO LEADER
- BOTTOM BOUNCER
- 6′ 20 LB FLUORO LEADER
- HARNESS
